Complications and Who to Call

If you have any problems during your recovery or at any time after the LAP-BAND® System procedure, please call your physician. Call right away if you have:

  • A fever of 38 degrees Celsius / 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
  • Sudden shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Pain, redness, or swelling in one or both of your legs
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Severe pain in your belly
  • Pain, swelling, or fluid leaking from your cuts

You should also call your physician if you experience anything unusual. If something just feels wrong, don’t be afraid to call.

In the case of a medical emergency or when you are out of town, you will need to go to the nearest emergency room facility. You should let the medical personnel there know that you have a LAP-BAND® System implanted.

Ask your physician for a LAP-BAND® System Patient Card included in the Patient Packet provided by Allergan. The patient card explains what the LAP-BAND® System is and what it looks like on an X-ray. This patient card also explains that you cannot eat very much, which can be useful in other situations.
